Best Time to Visit Hunza
- April: cherry and apricot blossom season — the valley turns pink and white.
- May to September: pleasant summer weather, all roads including Khunjerab Pass usually open.
- October to November: golden autumn colours; many travellers call this the most beautiful season.
- December to March: cold and snowy; Khunjerab Pass is normally closed, but Karimabad is peaceful and quiet.
Top Places to Visit in Hunza
Karimabad, Baltit Fort & Altit Fort
Karimabad is the heart of central Hunza. Walk up to the centuries-old Baltit Fort for sweeping views of the valley, then visit Altit Fort and its royal garden, one of the oldest monuments in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Attabad Lake
Formed after a landslide in 2010, Attabad Lake is famous for its stunning turquoise water. Boating, jet skiing and lakeside cafés make it a must-visit stop on every Hunza tour.
Passu Cones & Hussaini Bridge
The sharp, cathedral-like Passu Cones are one of the most photographed views on the Karakoram Highway. Nearby, the Hussaini Suspension Bridge is an adventure for anyone brave enough to cross it.
Khunjerab Pass
At around 4,700 metres, Khunjerab Pass is the highest paved border crossing in the world, on the Pakistan–China border. The drive passes through Khunjerab National Park, where you may spot yaks and marmots.
Eagle’s Nest
Located above Duikar village, Eagle’s Nest offers the best sunrise and sunset views over Rakaposhi, Ladyfinger and the entire Hunza Valley.
How to Reach Hunza
Hunza is reached by road on the Karakoram Highway from Islamabad (roughly 14–18 hours depending on the route and stops) or by flying to Gilgit and driving about 2–3 hours. Most travellers break the journey in Chilas, Besham or Naran.
