The northern areas of Pakistan change dramatically with the seasons. Choosing the right time makes a huge difference to road access, weather and the views you will enjoy. Here is a simple guide to help you plan.

Spring (March – May)

Blossom season in Hunza and Skardu, fresh green valleys in Swat and Neelum. Some high passes such as Babusar Top may still be closed by snow in early spring.

Summer (June – August)

The most popular time to travel. All major routes are usually open, including Babusar Top, Khunjerab Pass and Deosai. Perfect for Naran Kaghan, Fairy Meadows, Kumrat Valley camping and Skardu. Book early during Eid and school holidays.

Autumn (September – November)

Clear skies and golden colours make autumn a favourite for photographers, especially in Hunza and Skardu. Days are pleasant and nights get cold.

Winter (December – February)

The season for snow lovers. Malam Jabba, Kalam and Murree are great winter destinations. Many high-altitude roads close, so plan carefully with an experienced tour operator.
